Elderberry is an ancient ritual plant which builds a bridge to the Otherworld. It helps to establish contact with our ancestors and wards off negative assaults. Elder is also burned as incense for oracles - it lifts the veils and conveys the answers. When burned, the berries develop a tart, fruity scent.
