Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, luck, beauty and spiritual wellbeing. She is the consort of Vishnu and is depicted seated on a lotus, with gold streaming from her hands. Her name derives from the Sanskrit "Lakṣ" (to perceive, to know) – she is the one who recognises goals and signs.
The most important festival in Lakshmi's honour is Diwali, the Festival of Lights, when houses are festively illuminated so that Lakshmi may enter. As incense, lotus flowers, rose petals, jasmine and noble sandalwood are offered to her. In Western spiritual practice, Lakshmi is venerated as a symbol of opening oneself to material and spiritual prosperity.
Incense for Lakshmi: Rose petals, jasmine, sandalwood, lotus, orange blossoms. Friday evening is considered a particularly auspicious time.
