Wiki / Labdanum Leaves

Labdanum Leaves from the Rock Rose (Cistus ladanifer, also Gum Cistus) are known from the Mediterranean region. The sticky leaves and twigs are rich in labdanum resin, which exudes a deep, earthy, slightly animalic and balsamic fragrance – the famous "amber note" in perfumery.

In antiquity, labdanum was harvested from the fur of goats grazing on the rock rose – the origin of the "goat beard". It is one of the oldest incense substances of the Mediterranean world. As an incense it is said to be deeply grounding, offer protection and create a warm, sensually mysterious atmosphere.

Use: Place leaves and twigs on incense charcoal. Deep, resinous fragrance with amber note – very special.
