Kuan Yin (Chinese: 觀音, Guānyīn – "she who hears the cries of the world") is the Bodhisattva of compassion in East Asian Buddhism and Taoism. In China, Japan (as Kannon), Korea (as Gwaneum) and Vietnam (as Quan Âm), she is one of the most venerated deities of all. She is depicted as a kind, white-robed woman holding a vase from which the water of compassion flows.
Kuan Yin is the protector of women, children and seafarers, goddess of mercy and mother of all compassion. In Western spirituality she has become a symbol of unconditional love, healing and divine care.
