Caraway (Carum carvi) is one of the oldest cultivated plants in Europe. When burned as incense, its aromatic seeds release a warm, spicy and slightly anise-like fragrance that feels distinctly Central European and often evokes childhood memories.
Caraway has been used since the Stone Age and is regarded in Europe as a symbol of fidelity and bonding. In German folk magic it was credited with warding off theft and was placed inside birdcages so the animals would not fly away. As an incense, it is said to protect the home, keep spirits at bay and offer safeguard against theft.
Use: Place caraway seeds on glowing charcoal. The scent is pleasant and homely.
