Wiki / Ganesha

Ganesha (also Ganesh or Ganapati) is one of the most popular and well-known deities of Hinduism. He is depicted with the head of an elephant and the body of a human, and is the son of Shiva and Parvati. As the "Lord of Obstacles" (Vighnaharta), he is simultaneously the remover of obstacles and the protector against new ones.

Ganesha is the god of new beginnings, knowledge, wisdom and success. No important undertaking – a journey, a business venture, a wedding – is begun in Hindu households without first asking Ganesha for his blessing. He is venerated with incense (especially sandalwood and jasmine), flowers and sweets.

In Western spirituality, Ganesha has become a symbol for overcoming life's obstacles, for creativity and for the courage to embrace new beginnings.

Incense for Ganesha: Sandalwood, jasmine, rose petals and Nag Champa are considered particularly suitable.
