Benzoin Siam (from Styrax tonkinensis, native to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam) is a fragrant tree resin with a warm-sweet, vanilla-like balsamic fragrance. The light brown to whitish granules and lumps release a pleasant, inviting aroma when heated.
Benzoin Siam has been one of the most important trade goods on European spice routes since the Middle Ages. As an incense it is used in church incense (often as a base for frankincense blends), in aromatherapy and in spiritual practice. It is said to calm, harmonise and create a warm, sheltering atmosphere.
Use: Place granules or chunks on incense charcoal. Melts pleasantly and quickly develops its warm vanilla scent.
