Wiki / White Sage

White Sage (Salvia apiana) is the sacred incense herb of the indigenous peoples of North America – especially the Chumash and other tribes of southern California. The silvery-white leaves contain essential oils and release a strong, camphorated, intensely purifying fragrance when burned (smudging).

Smudging – the ritual burning of white sage – is a sacred practice of many North American peoples for the purification of persons, spaces, and sacred objects. As an incense, white sage is considered one of the most powerful purifying agents and is used worldwide for energetic cleansings.

A note of respect: White sage holds deep spiritual significance for indigenous cultures – please use it respectfully and consciously. Use: Burn as a bundle or place leaves on incense charcoal.
