Violet Root (actually Orris Root, Iris florentina or Iris germanica) is, despite its name, not a violet root at all, but the dried rhizome of the Florentine iris. After drying, it develops a distinctive, delicate violet scent (irone) and is known in perfumery as "Orris".
Violet root was one of the most expensive and sought-after fragrances of the Middle Ages. In magic it is associated with Venus and love rituals. As an incense it is said to promote love and attraction, offer protection, and serve as a fixative in incense blends, extending and refining the scent of other ingredients.
Use: Place root pieces or powder on incense charcoal. A delicate violet fragrance – elegant and sophisticated.
