Styrax Bark is the dried bark of the Oriental Sweetgum (Liquidambar orientalis) or related species. The bark contains balsam and essential oils and releases a warm-resinous, slightly sweet and woody fragrance when burned – somewhat milder than the resin itself.
In Turkish and Arabian incense tradition, Styrax bark is used as an everyday incense and for making incense blends. It is said to be warming and protective and to create a cosy, sheltering atmosphere. As a component of incense blends it lends warmth and depth.
Use: Place pieces of bark on incense charcoal. Mild, warm fragrance – a good base in incense blends.
