Wiki / Styrax

Styrax (Storax) is a balsamic incense resin obtained from various plants – primarily from Liquidambar orientalis (Oriental Sweetgum) and from Styrax officinalis. The viscous, dark brown resin has a deep, warm-sweet and oriental fragrance with cinnamon and vanilla notes.

Styrax was one of the most important incense resins of antiquity and is already mentioned in Egyptian papyri as part of sacred incense blends. It is an ingredient of the biblical "Ketoret" (the sacred Temple incense) and was a sought-after trading commodity along the Silk Road. As an incense it is said to offer protection and warmth and to establish deep spiritual connections.

Use: Place small amounts of the viscous resin on incense charcoal. Warm, deep oriental fragrance.
