Shungite is a unique carbon-containing mineral from the Karelia region of Russia, mined primarily near the village of Shunga on Lake Onega. It is over two billion years old and contains, in addition to crystalline carbon, fullerenes (C60) – hollow spherical carbon molecules that were only discovered in 1985, earning their discoverer the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
In gemstone and energy healing, Shungite is valued above all for its alleged protection against electromagnetic radiation (EMF). It is said to neutralise Wi-Fi, mobile phone signals and other radiation sources. In addition, it is used for water purification and vitalization – Shungite does genuinely possess documented antibacterial properties. In energy work it is considered grounding, protective and clarifying.
Use: Wear as a pendant, place Shungite plates on devices or filter water through Shungite stones. Combine as a complement with grounding incense such as patchouli or cedarwood.
