Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) is the world's most widely traded spice and was historically so valuable that it was called "black gold". As an incense, the black peppercorns release a sharply spicy, slightly smoky fragrance that has an energising and warming effect.
In folk magic and incense practice, black pepper is used for protective incense, to ward off negative energies and the evil eye. It is said to bestow energy and power, overcome obstacles and keep enemies at a distance. In Vodou and Hoodoo practice it is an important protective charm.
Use: Place whole or lightly crushed peppercorns on incense charcoal. Intense smoke – ventilate well.
