Wiki / Opoponax

Opoponax (also Sweet Myrrh, botanically Commiphora guidottii) is an incense resin from the Horn of Africa – primarily Somalia. Compared to true myrrh, Opoponax is softer, sweeter and with a warm, balsamically animalic undertone. It is also referred to as "African benzoin".

Opoponax has been known since antiquity and was part of the biblical "Stacte" – a sacred incense blend. As an incense it is said to be deeply relaxing, calm the nervous system, create emotional warmth and security, and be used in love and healing rituals.

Use: Place resin granules on incense charcoal. Sweet, soft fragrance – more pleasant than true myrrh, ideal for relaxation incense.
