Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) are the dried flower buds of a tropical spice tree from the Moluccas of Indonesia. As an incense they release an intense, warm, sweetly spicy and slightly numbing fragrance that immediately evokes Christmas and spice markets.
Cloves were so valuable in the Middle Ages that wars were fought over them. As an incense they are said to be protective, drive away evil spirits and negative energies, while simultaneously creating a warm, inviting and cheerful atmosphere. They are also used for love and luck incense.
Use: Place whole cloves on incense charcoal. Very intense fragrance – use sparingly. Wonderful in winter incense blends.
