Mace is the seed covering (aril) of the Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) and one of the most exquisite spices and incense materials of all. The fragrance is warm, spicy, slightly sweet and more complex than that of nutmeg – with a floral, exotic note.
Mace was so valuable in the Middle Ages and early modern period that wars were waged over it. As an incense, mace is said to promote concentration and clarity, attract prosperity and support spiritual visions. It is highly valued in Arabian incense practice.
Use: Place small pieces or ground mace on incense charcoal. Exquisite, long-lasting fragrance.
