Poppy Flowers from Papaver rhoeas are the fiery red petals of the field poppy. As an incense, the dried petals release a delicate, slightly herbaceous-sweet fragrance. The common poppy – unlike the opium poppy – contains no opiates.
In the language of flowers and folk magic, poppy flowers stand for sleep, rest, grief and remembrance. As an incense they are used for sleep rituals, to calm the mind and to commemorate the departed. In England, red poppies are traditionally associated with remembrance of those who have fallen in war.
Use: Carefully place dried petals on incense charcoal. They burn quickly – use a small amount.
