Jatamansi (also Spikenard or Nardostachys jatamansi) is a rare Himalayan plant whose fragrant root has been counted among the most precious incense substances and perfume ingredients since antiquity. The "oil of nard" of the Bible, with which Mary Magdalene anointed the feet of Jesus, came from this plant. As an incense it releases a deep, earthy, musky and balsamic fragrance.
In Ayurvedic medicine, Jatamansi is considered a particularly calming and grounding agent for the nervous system. As an incense it is used for deep meditations, to calm the overexcited mind, for mourning rituals and to connect with deep stillness.
Caution: Jatamansi plants are protected – ensure ethically harvested material. Use: Place small root pieces on incense charcoal.
