Wiki / Galangal

Galangal (botanically Alpinia galanga or Alpinia officinarum) is a plant of the ginger family with an aromatic root, native to South and South-East Asia. As an incense, galangal releases a warm, spicy fragrance with slightly peppery and camphor-like notes.

Hildegard of Bingen described galangal as one of the most important medicinal plants and recommended it for numerous complaints. As an incense it is said to be warming, invigorating and to promote concentration. In Asian incense traditions it is used for energy and vitality.

Use: Place dried root slices or pieces on incense charcoal. The fragrance develops slowly and persistently.
