Dittany Root from Dictamnus albus (Burning Bush or Gas Plant) is one of the most mysterious plants of Europe. In hot, dry summers the herb is said to release a mixture of essential oils that can briefly be ignited – hence the biblical name "Burning Bush". As an incense, the root has a spicy, bitter and slightly citrusy fragrance.
In ancient mythology, dittany was the healing herb of Artemis, with which she removed arrows from the wounds of her animals. As an incense it was used in European folk magic for banishing rituals, spirit evocation and powerful protective incense. It is said to form a bridge between the worlds.
Use: Place small pieces of the dried root on incense charcoal. Intense fragrance – use sparingly.
