Wiki / Anise

Anise (botanically Pimpinella anisum) is one of the oldest spice and medicinal plants in the world. As an incense it releases a sweet, warm-spicy fragrance reminiscent of liquorice, instantly creating a cosy atmosphere.

The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans were already using anise in rituals and healing practices. In incense tradition it is used for purification, relaxation and to open the senses. It is said to banish nightmares and encourage restful sleep.

Use: Place whole or lightly crushed seeds on incense charcoal. The smoke develops quickly and is pleasantly sweet-warm.
