Wiki / Elecampane Root

Elecampane Root (botanically Inula helenium) is an ancient medicinal plant whose dried root has been valued as an incense for centuries. The strong, slightly earthy and resinous-sweet fragrance is reminiscent of violet and musk.

In traditional folk medicine and incense practice, Elecampane Root was regarded as strengthening and protective. It was used to cleanse spaces, ward off negative influences and strengthen the life force. In the Middle Ages it was a regular component of protective incense blends.

Use: Place small pieces of the dried root on charcoal or in an incense pan. The smoke is dense and pleasantly spicy.
